Elaine M. Eckhart, 80, of Palmerton, died March 2, in her home after a long illness. She was the wife of Latimer J. Eckhart, Jr. They marked their 59th wedding anniversary this past December. She was a cafeteria worker in the Palmerton Area School District for many years, and she also worked as a bookkeeper for the former Ben Franklin store, Palmerton.Elaine was a lifelong and devoted member of St. Matthews Union Church, later St. Matthews United Church of Christ, Kunkletown, where she sang in the choir for 67 years and taught Sunday School alongside her husband. She also played coronet in the Kunkletown Band, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Kunkletown, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Helen (Smith) Balliet. Survivors: Husband; daughter, Faye, and husband, Rick Rentschler, of Schnecksville; sons, Bruce, and wife, Robbin, of Nanuet, NY, and Hal, and wife Christine, of Palmerton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
