Emily is a daughter of Hillary M. Collier (1783–1841) and Miss Frances Quarles (1790–1840). She first married William C. Glover on 18 Nov 1841; he died 20 Sep 1842. She married Dr. Nicholas Meriwether on 4 Nov 1845 in Augusta, Georgia; they were the parents of 13 known children.

Emily's sister, Mary Ann Collier, married Nicholas' brother, Robert T. Meriwether.

Possibly buried in a Bethlehem Baptist cemetery, Edgefield County, SC.
