TAX SUPERVISOR DIES FOLLOWING BRIEF ILLNESS

George E Huckstep, 48, state income tax supervisor of the State Auditing Department, died early Wednesday morning at St Mary's hospital, Rochester, Minnesota. Mr Huckstep was operated on for gall stones Tuesday, November 29, by Dr Walters of the Mayo staff, who operated on James Roosevelt.

Mr Huckstep's wife, the former Miss Beulah Stonner os Chamois, and their son, George, Jr, were in Rochester at the time of his death. They will return to Jefferson City with the body Thursday morning.

Had Excellent Record

As state income tax supervisor, Mr Huckstep was largely responsible for requiring certain large interests who had not been paying before to pay $400, 000 in income tax to the state of Missouri.

Mr Huckstep was born near Linn, Osage county, August 15, 1870, the youngest child of the prominent family of J.D. and Louis Holliway Huckstep. He is survived by one sister, Mrs John Cooper of Jefferson City; Gus Huckstep of Linn; John Huckstep of St Louis and a large number of relatives in Cole and Osage counties. Before moving to Jefferson City, Mr Huckstep spent 2 years as chief of the St Louis office of the U.S. Internal Revenue Department and 10 years with the department in Washington, D.C. the World War, during which he served in the aviation branch of the army.

Mr Huckstep received his elementary education in country schools of Osage county; graduated from the Linn high school. Later he attended the Central Missouri State Teachers college at Warrensburg, was superintendent of the schools at Harrisburg, Arkansas, and later superintendent of Jefferson City Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 Friday afternoon from the Methodist church, with the Masonic Order assisting.
