MARILYN GILLIAM

Marilyn Balser Gilliam was born on December 3rd, 1928 to parents, John and Janette Balser in Lafayette, Indiana. She married E. Joe Gilliam Sr. on July 29th, 1948. She is survived by her husband, E. Joe Gilliam, two daughters, Felicia Capps of Exeter, CA and Marilyn Sue Carpenter of Batavia, IL, three sons, Victor Gilliam of Silverton, OR, E. Joe Gilliam Jr. of Lake Oswego, OR and Steven Gilliam of Joshua Tree, CA; a younger brother, Ron Balser, of Tucson, AZ, nine grand-children, and 3 great grand-children. Her parents, two brothers and an infant daughter preceded her in death.

Marilyn was co-founder and treasurer of The Christian Leadership Institute where she also coordinated the publishing of a quarterly journal, and The Faculty Dialogue with over twelve thousand subscriptions in circulation. She served as secretary for a Church of God in Indianapolis, IN for ten years where her husband pastored. She loved to travel, including several trips to Canada, six trips to England, as well as Scotland, Whales, Australia, Holland, Jamaica and many other places.

Marilyn enjoyed working in Christian Education and served as coordinator for visiting scholars and social events at Warner Pacific College in her home or on campus in Portland, OR. She gave loyal support to her husband as he pastored and was a college president, and their five children.

The memorial service for Marilyn Gilliam is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16th, at 1pm. Bill Gaither, Ruth Yerden, and Duane Hamlin will share the music. The service will be held at the Holiday Park Church of God, at 2120 NE Tillamook St., Portland, Oregon.
