Esther Allen and Louis Victor Petry in Hoopeston, Illinois. Julia was the youngest of their three very talented girls. As a young girl, Julia attended the Interlachen Music Camp where she developed her gifts in voice and piano. But it was Robert Winn Gibson who stole her heart while a student at Depauw University in Greencastle Indiana from 1947-1951. At Depauw, Julia joined the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, an affiliation that spanned 60 years through the writing of letters to her Theta "sisters" celebrating births, graduations and anniversaries. Julia's 54 year marriage to Bob was marked by adventure and high fun until Bob's death in 2005. Julia and Bob raised three children, two of whom remain. Their daughter Mary died of cancer in 2004, their son George lives in Atlanta, Georgia with his wife and two children, Kyle and Emily and their daughter Julie lives in Jacksonville, Florida with her husband Jonathan. Julie and Jon have two practicing adult children, Kate lives in St. Paul, Minnesota and
Spencer, lives in Phoenix, Arizona. Julia loved her role as wife, mother and grandmother. In addition, Julia served the community through her participation in the Winter Park Hospital Auxiliary, the Junior Service League and Junior League of Winter Park, as the head of the Episcopal Churchwomen and head of the Daughters of the King in the Episcopal diocese of Dallas and remained active in Saint Bridgette's Guild and the Daughters of the King at All Saints in Winter Park, Florida. The quiet grace, gratitude and deep faith that Julia demonstrated in the midst of adversity touched the lives of those who knew her. A memorial service to celebrate Julia's life will take place at the Mayflower on Friday, December 3 at 2 p.m. with a reception following. On Saturday December 4, Julia's life will be celebrated at All Saints Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. A reception will follow.
