Houston Fire Department from 1899-1905.
Engine driver for fire station No. 2.
Son of Albert H. Hartwell. Burial was under the auspices of the firemens organization.
Although not killed in the line of duty, Firefighter Hartwell passed away at the fire station during his shift. He is buried in the Fireman's Plot in Glenwood Cemetery.

Cause of Death: Carbolic Acid poisoning.
