Joseph LeRoy Hess, 90, of New Providence, PA passed away peacefully Friday, May 24, 2013 with his family at his side. Joe was the husband of Dorothy Eager Hess. They had celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Joe had been a welder for much of his life, working at Wiley's in Port Deposit, MD, and Adamson Tank, Quarryville. He had also worked as a security guard for both Muddy Run Park, and Holtwood Power Plant. Joe had also worked as a deputy fish warden for the PA Fish Commission.

He was born in Little Britain, PA, a son of the late Joseph Elsworth and Estella J. Richey Hess.

Joe had served his country honorably in the US Army. He was a member of New Providence Church of God.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed coon hunting with his dog "Half Pint".

In addition to his wife Dorothy, Joe is survived by 4 sons: Donald Hess and companion Colette Harnley, Lancaster, Fred Hess married to Barbara, Pequea, Steve Hess, married to Pamala, Quarryville, John Hess, married to Cindy, New Providence, 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a sister: Doris June Myers, Willow Street. He was predeceased by 3 sons: Joseph LeRoy Hess, Jr., George Thomas Hess, Richard Wayne Hess, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. at Reynolds Funeral and Cremation Services, 144 East State Street, Quarryville, PA with Pastor Dwight Lefever officiating. Viewing will be held from 1-2:00 P.M. Thursday. Burial will be in Quarryville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
