Obit from Messenger of Truth Issue 8, 1983:

Our father and grandfather, Pete K. Martens, was born to George and Mary Klassen Martens at Inman, Kansas, on July 27, 1913. He departed this life on March 16, 1983, in the hospital, Merced, California, reaching the age of 69 years, 7 months, and 18 days. Death was caused by a stroke and heart complications.
Dad grew to manhood and received his education in the Inman, Kansas, vicinity.
In the year of 1934, Dad felt his lost condition, repented of his sins, and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.
On July 17, 1938, he was united in marriage to our mother, Justina Nikkel, at Inman, Kansas, sharing life's joys and sorrows for seventeen years. This union was blessed with three sons and three daughters. Dad made his living by farming.
In 1953 our parents moved to Glenn, California. On July 31, 1955, our mother met her end in a tragic accident, leaving Dad sad and lonely with a family of young children.
On February 5, 1956, our dad was united in marriage to Martha Friesen at Glenn, California. We as a family appreciate the desire and effort she put forth, sharing the responsibility of the family and the home.
Life wasn't always easy for Dad; yet he filled his responsibility as a father, providing well for the needs of his children. Dad had a friendly disposition which won him many friends. He was a lover of children, which made his grandchildren very dear to him.
Dad's life was not without struggles and disappointments. However, it has been evident during the last several years that he was earnestly concerned for his salvation, calling upon the Lord for His mercy and help. During his stay in the hospital he found an experience of release and rest, at which time we believe the Lord accepted his prayer and has received him into His care.
He leaves to mourn: three sons: Eugene and wife Grace, Marienthal, Kansas; Jay Dean and wife Joanne, Midland, Texas; Galen and wife Karen, Winton, California; two daughters: Roselene and husband Robert Giesbrecht, and Delores and husband Lloyd Mastre, Bonners Ferry, Idaho; twenty-one grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He is survived by: two brothers: John, Hutchinson, Kansas; Edward, Inman, Kansas; three sisters: Sarah Ensz, Inman, Kansas; Marie Nikkel, Moundridge, Kansas; Kathryn Martens, Livingston, California; two sisters-in-law: Anna, Mrs. George Martens, and Susie, Mrs. Ike Martens, Newton, Kansas; and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and an infant daughter.
Funeral services were held at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Winton, California, on Saturday afternoon, March 19, 1983. Burial was in the Winton Cemetery.
