Michael D. Shaffer, a chef and host at the Ye Olde Towne Crier Restaurant in Southeast Portland, died Tuesday in a Portland hospital of a subdural hemorrhage. He was 39. At his request, no service will be held.

He was born June 12, 1953, in Portland and graduated from Franklin High School. He attended Oregon State University. Mr. Shaffer had worked at Ye Olde Towne Crier, which is owned and operated by his family, for the past 20 years.

Survivors include his parents, Cliff and Gin Shaffer, and his brothers, Mark and Matthew, all of Portland.

Disposition was by cremation.
