Mr. Arnett was a veteran of the Spanish American War, serving from 1899-1902 with the U.S. Army 11th Infantry Regiment, Company A, Casualty Detachment. He served on the Nashville police force for many years before his retirement in 1939 and was assigned to duty at Shelby and Centennial parks during his service.
He married Emma Louise Archey Jan. 1, 1905 in Davidson, Tennessee. They were the parents of James Donald Arnett, Jr., Lillie Eliza Arnett Smith, Jessie Louise Arnett Webb Hamlin, Robert J. D. Arnett, and Frances Elizabeth Arnett Akin.
