Alois Latzer, who was an Austrian by birth (Tyrol, Austria), came to America in December, 1846 and entered and improved a farm near Highland, where for some years he made his home. Through the exercise of good judgment in business affairs he became the possessor of ample means, and as the climate of our country did not agree with him, he decided to return to Europe. In 1868 he returned to his native land and settled on the sunny side of the Alps, where the remainder of his life was passed. There he died in 1891, at the age of eighty-four years.
