Selvia Copeland Sydnor an identical twin was born on June 20, 1920, to William H. Copeland and Georgia Ann Wyatt Copeland in Dodson, Louisiana. It was there in the small community of Pineywoods, Louisiana that Selvia was baptized and dedicated her life to Christ. Selvia departed this life on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. She was precede in death by her husband, Wendell, both parents, three children, Alice, Mark, and Michael, two brothers, William Bud Copeland and O.T. Copeland, seven sisters, Gertrude Watson, Barbara Smith, Elaine Casey, Girlie Hardin, Pearl Peters, Beaulah Hunter, and Eloise Jean. Selvia was briefly married to Stacy Jackson. From their union, she gave birth to her first daughter, Alice Loucile. After divorcing Stacy she decided to move to Kansas City, Missouri in 1941 to reunite with her twin sister, Velva. It was in Kansas City she met and married Wendell Walter Clarence Sydnor. They married in 1947 and from their union they had seven children, four boys and three girls. Through faith in God, the assistance of her sisters and mother, Selvia raised her seven kids after their father died in 1961. She was an excellent role model and qualities of a Proverb's virtuous woman. Mother Taylor met and married Minister Alonzo Taylor while she was a member of Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church. Mother Taylor as she is affectionately known by the members at Mt. Nebo. She was the adult Sunday School Teacher for many years and served as the Missionary president and the mother's board until she moved to Alton, Illinois for a brief stay. Selvia Copeland Sydnor leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Jackie (Paulette) and Wendell (Dorothy); three daughters, Selvia (Brady), Velva (Leon), and Delphine; one brother, William H. Copeland (Leola); two sisters, Ethel Muriel Faucette and Helen Roberson; eighty-six grand and great, great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral Services for Selvia Copeland Sydnor will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 5445 Cleveland. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at The Church.
