MONTGOMERY WOMAN WINS FRENCH CROSS.
Mrs. Paxton Hibben of Montgomery has been awarded the Croix De Guerre by the French Government for services rendered as a Red Cross nurse in France during the world war. Mrs. Hibben has just received a citation from the Commander of the Tenth French Army Corps which entitles her to the decoration. Mrs. Hibben served with he Red Cross in France practically throughout the entire war. She went to France in 1914 but has made several trips to America since that time. In April, May and June, during the great German drive, she served at Chantilly. The remainder of the time she was stationed at Red Cross Base Hospital No. 1 in Paris. "No heroine story about me, please," said Mrs. Hibben. "I only did what thousands of others did, and no more than they." "In the call for volunteers to go to Orry-la-Ville," says the citation "during the advance of the enemy in the spring of 1918, she spontaneously offered her services and worked day and night under a continual bombardment of bombs and asphyxiating gas, giving her care and devotion to a very great number of French soldiers."

SHEILA HIBBEN, 76, A FOOD AUTHORITY, New York Writer Dead - Author of 3 Books
Sheila Hibben, a writer and authority on food and cooking, died of a heart attack yesterday in her apartment at 171 West 12th Street. She was 76 years old. Mrs. Hibben, who wrote about food and drink for The New Yorker magazine for 20 years, also wrote a shopping column there called "About the House." She contributed occasional articles to Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. In addition, Mrs. Hibben was author of three books about cooking - "Good Food For Bad Stomachs," American Regional Cookery" and "A Kitchen Manual". . . Mrs. Hibben, the former Cecile Craik, was born in Montgomery, Ala., and lived for many years in France. Although her name was Cecile, she preferred to be known as Sheila. She was the widow of Paxton Hibben, a journalist and diplomat. The couple lived in Greece and Russia for several years. Mr. Hibben died in 1928. Mrs. Hibben is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert Hellendale of Greenwich, Conn: a sister and three grandchildren.
