Whiteville- Mr. Robert Berry "Bobby" Love, Sr. went to be with his maker on Wednesday, May 22, 2013.
He was born May 10, 1930. His parents were D.L. "Ri" and Thelma "Billie" R. Love. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Claire D. Love of the home; two children, Elizabeth Love Hall and husband Toby G. Hall and Robert Berry Love, Jr. and wife Sandra Barnhill Love all of Whiteville; he also has tow grandchildren, Kelly Marie Love and Robert Darius Love and a sister, Louise Love Matera of Whiteville; two nieces, Melinda Love Memory and Billie-Ri Memory and one nephew, Simms Memory.
Bobby was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Whiteville where he had been a Deacon and taught Sunday School. Mr. Love was a lifelong member of the Whiteville Civitan Club serving as Secretary from 1970-1971 and President from 1976-1977.
Mr. Love served in the US Air Force from 1951-1955 and was stationed at Bentwater Air Force Base in England. After his time in the Air force he worked for ITT in Nutley, NJ. as a planner and payroll clerk for Love Lumber Co. in Whiteville. He was also a self-employed business man in the vending machine trade through the mid 1980's
He enjoyed driving cars for local car dealers and worked for enterprise rental cars in his later years.
Bobby had a passion for natural things. He loved to garden and fish. He gardened the same plot for over 40 years. He loved to tell people he had over 100 tomato plants he had tied up and staked .
He grew most of his plants from seed in his greenhouse . He also loved his family ,his church and had a strong lasting relationship with his wife Claire, who took care of him in his later years after his health declined.
Mr. Love loved to help prepare the men's breakfast at the First Presbyterian Church in Whiteville. He very much enjoyed visits to his home and his room the past few months by many of his fellow church members, friends and fellow residence and workers at Liberty Commons of Whiteville.
Visitation will be Friday, May 24, 2013 at McKenzie Mortuary from 6-8:00 PM. A graveside service will Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Whiteville Memorial Cemetery at 11:00 AM
