Daniel was a son of William Scherer (1806-1896) and Elizabeth Becker (1805-????). He was born in the town of Katzweiler in the district of Reinland-Palantine in Germany in the year 1845.

The family emigrated to Canada in 1847 and settled around the Waterloo County Region.

1891 census of Waterloo Town. 44 years old.
1901 census of Preston Village. 55 years old.
1911 census of Preston Town. 65 years old.

Daniel married his 1st wife, Catharine Mueller (1850-1880) on July 25, 1869 in the village of Waterloo. Marriage General #2365.

Sadly, she died at a very young age, in her 30th year.

Daniel then married a widow named Ernstena Fleischhauer on April 16, 1884 in North Easthope Twp; in Perth County. Marriage Register #009121.

She gave birth to 3 known children with Daniel;
1. Elma Annie Elizabeth Scherer (Ruppel) 1885-
2. Herbert Micheal Scherer 1885-1945.
3. Clayton Alexander Scherer 1889-

Ernstena had a daughter with her 1st husband named Catharine Fleischhauer born in 1871. She was raised by Daniel has his own daughter.

Daniel died at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 10 days.
His cause of Death was; Tuberculosis of the Lungs.

He was buried with his 2nd wife Ernstena in Mount Hope Cemetery.
