Obituary from the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Edwardsville, Madison County, Illinois, Tuesday, November 4, 1947, page 2:
  Joseph M. Meek of Ft. Russell township passed away Monday at 12:40 p.m. at DePaul hospital in St. Louis where he had been a patient for the last two weeks.
  He was born April 10, 1878, in Edwardsville township and had attained the age of 69 years, six months and 23 days. He was the son of the late John and Lena Meek.
  He has spent the past 54 years farming in Ft. Russell township.
  On Oct. 16, 1906, he was married to Anna Kurman who survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Vincent and Elmer; one daughter, Mrs. William Lattray, St. Louis; two grandchildren; one brother, Charles; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Kesl, Mrs. John Schrepferman and Mrs. C. Zellerman, Quincy.
  He was a member of St. Boniface church and the Holy Name society.
  The body may be viewed at the Straube funeral home after 7 o'clock this evening.
  Funeral services will be held at 8:30 Thursday from the funeral home to St. Boniface church at 9 o'clock with the Rev. E.J. Eckhard officiating.
  Burial will be made in Calvary cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charles Meek Jr., Albert Meek, Leonard Kesl, Virgil Schrepferman, Lindley Evans, John Kurman.
