SOUTHERN PINES—JD Longfellow, Jr., 72, of Southern Pines passed away Saturday May 18, 2013, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill, N.C. JD was born Sept. 24, 1940, in Salisbury, to Jonathan Longfellow, Sr. and Wanda Richardson Longfellow.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Q. Longfellow; sister Juanita "Nita" Messick and husband Bill Messick of Cambridge; and the following children and grandchildren: daughter Jill E. Longfellow of Duluth, Ga., Les Forde of Pinehurst, Russell F. Martin of Raleigh, N.C., Patricia L. Morse of Waynesville, Mo., Sandi J. Brinkel of Parker, Colo., Jake F. Malcolm of Conyers, Ga., Chris Morse of Tinker AFB, Okla., Bracken Brinkel of Parker, Colo., Rusty Martin of Raleigh, N.C., Shannon Morse of El Sobrante, Calif., and Brittany Morse of Waynesville, Mo.

JD graduated from the University of Maryland in 1961, served in the United States Air Force (including Chinese Language training at Yale University), earned his CPA designation from Pembroke State College, where he later taught accounting. JD owned CPA accounting practices in Laurinburg and Southern Pines, N.C.

JD loved the sea and spent much of his spare time with family at Topsail Island, N.C., teaching several generations to fish, value family, and appreciate God's beauty.

A "Celebration of Life" service for family and friends will be held May 31, 2013, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the St Andrews Room, Pinehurst Country Club, 1 Carolina Vista Drive, Pinehurst, N.C. 28374.
