Memorial services with family graveside services will be held for Dora G. Churchill, 94, Coos Bay, Tuesday, November 27 at Coos Bay, Tuesday, November 27 at Coos Bay First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert E. Hefty of United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Coos Bay Chapel.
She was born January 24, 1896 in Marshfield and died November 23, 1990 at Coos Bay. She was a lifetime resident of Coos County and daughter of the late Marvin and Martha Dies Brown, a Coos County pioneer family, Mrs. Churchill graduated from Marshfield High School in 1915 and taught school for one year at the Gold and Silver Falls School. She later attended Willamette University, Salem and Southern Oregon Normal College, Ashland.
Mrs. Churchill earned a lifetime teaching certificate for Oregon and taught school at Charleston and Bunker Hill, and Powers schools. She was married in 1929 at Marshfield to Guy Churchill. He preceded her in death in 1968. Mrs. Churchill was a lifetime member of the Coos Bay United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Marvin Simons of Myrtle Point; stepson, Thomas Churchill of Portland; nine grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren and one niece and nephew.
The family suggests memorial contributions to United Methodist Memorial Fund, 123 Ocean Blvd., SE, Coos Bay 97420.
