Michael T. Mabry, age 21, of Killen, Ala., went to be with his Lord on Sunday, June 10, in Atlanta, Ga. Michael was a man who sought the Lord with his whole heart and is now with Him. Michael was a member of First Baptist Church, Killen. At the time of his death, Michael was employed as a summer counselor with Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters Youth Camp in Andrews, N.C.
Michael was born Aug. 27, 1985, in Florence, Ala. He attended Brooks High School in Killen, Alabama. He was an award-winning trumpet player in the Brooks High School Band. He also played on the high school tennis team for a number of years. Michael's greatest passion was playing the piano. He loved to read books, especially those dealing with Christianity and the Christian life. Michael was a mentor to many teenagers in his youth group at First Baptist, Killen. After high school, Michael fulfilled his dream of attending the University of Alabama, where he was a senior, scheduled to graduate in December 2007 with a philosophy degree and again in May 2008 with a double major in finance. While attending the University of Alabama, Michael was on staff as a resident manager with the Baptist Campus Ministries. He also participated in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization in Tuscaloosa and served as a Big Brother to Keontai for the past three years.
Michael enjoyed life to the fullest as evidenced by his infectious and contagious smile. He loved his family andfriends and was happiest when he was in the presence of those he loved. His greatest joy was to speak to others about his Jesus and to encourage others to commit their lives to Christ. Even in death, Michael blessed others through the donation of various organs. Michael encouraged others to use their gifts to bless others by being an organ donor.
Michael is survived by his loving mother, Darlene Mabry, and beautiful sister, Melanie Mabry, of Killen, Ala.; brother, Justin Mabry, of Jackson, Miss.; Michael's "maw-maw," Alta Tippett, of Florence; aunt, Sherri Tippett, of Florence; uncles, Danny Tippett, of Florence, and Darryl Tippett and wife, Kaye of Florence, Ala.; paternal grandmother, Virginia Mabry, of Jackson, Miss.; paternal grandfather, Tom Mabry, of Florence, Ala.; aunt, Dianne Peoples, of Durango, Colo.; along with several cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his father in November 2000, Tommy Mabry Jr., and his grandfather, John David Tippett Jr.
Michael's celebration of life will be Wednesday, June 13, 2007, in the Life Outreach Center at First Baptist Church, Killen, at 4 p.m., with the Revs. David McKelvey, Terry Thomas and Matthew Kerlin officiating. His family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m. Burial will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Hester, Matthew Kerlin, Rusty Murks, Channing Olive, Austin Shirey, Garrett Shirey, Jason Spires and Cory Thomas.
The Mabry family would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our church family at First Baptist, Killen, and our friends too numerous to name for your loving kindness shown. Thank you so much for your support and prayers.
