Samuel Kelton was a noted Revolutionary War Veteran and one of the founding fathers of Gardner, MA.

Samuel Kelton served as a sergeant in Captain Aaron Smith's Company during the Lexington Alarm and later served as a Captain in Colonel Patterson's Regiment during the siege of Boston.

Kelton was called Captain Kelton as a sign of respect when he settled in what would become Gardner, MA.

Samuel Kelton not only signed the petition to incorporate Gardner as a town he was also one of the four men to collect signatures for the petition. The year after Gardner's incorporation as a town Kelton was elected to act as a delegate to a convention of reformers meeting in Paxton.

Kelton married a woman named Mary Leeds and together they had six children. Kelton passed away at the age of 79.
