Alvin J. Jurek

Alvin J. Jurek, 87, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2010 in Big Spring, Texas. He was born June 1, 1922 in Hallettsville, Texas to Frank and Annie Kubena Jurek. Alvin was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Hermann Sons Harmonia Lodge, Hermann Sons Mixed Chorus and the German-American Club in Las Vegas. Alvin was a graduate of the Landig Mortuary School in Houston and had been employed by Charles Hanavan Funeral Home, Roy Akers Funeral Chapels and Sunset Funeral Home all in San Antonio. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as a First Sergeant in the Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theater. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Jurek and wife Judy, Paul Jurek and wife Shirley and daughter, Patty Dior; 22 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, numerous friends, colleagues and extended family. The visitation will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2010 from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, (between Stone Oak Parkway-Voigt Dr. and US Hwy. 281.) The Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, May 28, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 350 Sutton St. at St. Cloud.
