Richard J. Pieper, age 65, of Howards Grove, passed away Sunday May 19, 2013 at Sharon Richardson Community Hospice after a long fought battle with cancer. He was born on June 20, 1947 in Sheboygan, a son of the late Elmer and Carol (Berg) Pieper. Richard was a 1965 graduate of Howards Grove High School.

In his early years, Richard worked on the family homestead located in the "Millersville" area of Howards Grove, later working at Badger Hatchery. In 1971, he began his career with Neumann Plumbing & Heating Company of Howards Grove. He worked in the plumbing service division almost 38 years, retiring in 2009.

Sharon A. Hartman and Richard Pieper were united in marriage on July 27, 1974 at Bethel United Church of Christ in Ada. She preceded him in death on December 10, 2002.

Richard was a life member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Howards Grove where he had served as a trustee for many years, as an elder of the congregation, and longtime caretaker for the church cemetery. He had a passion for dartball, and played for St. Pauls in Howards Grove, and St. Paul's Lutheran in Sheboygan Falls, as well as the Neumann Plumbing & Heating Traveling Dartball Team. He was most recently inducted into the Eastern Wisconsin Lutheran Dartball Hall of Fame.

Richard treasured his time with his family, and enjoyed spending Memorial Day weekend each year at Pickerel Lake in St. Germaine. He loved gardening, and growing pickles and potatoes, selling his product to neighbors and friends. He could often been seen at the Sheboygan Falls McDonalds, having morning coffee with his friends.

Surviving Richard are five sons: Jason (special friend Jaime), Joshua (special friend Stephanie), Jonathan (special friend Amanda), Jesse, and Jeremy, all of Howards Grove, his sister and brother-in-law: Debbie (Steve) Schueler of Cleveland, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Sandy (Jim) Knier of Kiel. He is also survived by his special friend and confidant, Judy Goeks, aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was also preceded in death by an infant son, and his mother and father-in law; Leroy and Jeanette (Doro) Hartmann.

A Howards Grove, with Reverend Tom Unke, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery in Ada.
