Charles "Charlie" Champagne, 84, of Bloomfield, Vt., passed away on Saturday morning, July 30, 2011, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, after a brief illness and with his loving wife by his side.

He was born in St. Isidore, Quebec, on May 19, 1927, a son to the late Richard and Marie-Ange (Perron) Champagne. Charlie left school at an early age to begin working in the woods.

For several years, Charlie owned and operated three different restaurants in Manchester, NH. He and his wife, Peggy, also owned the Bear Mountain Restaurant in Brunswick, Vt. He also worked for himself as a woodsman and logger for many years.

Charlie was a true outdoorsman, and hunting was his passion. He was a hard worker, and known for his sense of humor. He was also an avid Red Sox fan. Charlie will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Peggy Champagne of Bloomfield, Vt.; his son, Troy Champagne and wife Jennifer of Winnabow, NC; his granddaughter Kaylee Champagne; two sisters, Gabrielle St. John of Mont Vernon, NH, and Nicole Labrie of Pembroke, NH; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his siblings, Jeanne Marchand, Raymond Champagne, Ida Houle, Edward Champagne, Rose Amande Beauchemin, Nil Champagne, and Ramonne Dostie.
