CHAZY — Norman J. Brown, 81, of Miner Farm Road, passed away peacefully into the arms of the lord on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the CVPH Medical Center.

He was born in Chazy on Feb. 1, 1932, the son of Henry and Maude (Robare) Brown. On May 31, 1958 Norman married the former Cynthia Penfield at Sacred Heart Church in Chazy. They were about to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary at the end of this month.

Norman graduated from Chazy Central School in 1950. He was a veteran of United States Army and served our country as a trained mechanic in Korea from 1952 to 1954. This inspired him to buy a local business in Chazy that he named Norm's Gulf Service Station, which he owned and operated until 1973. He then worked as a bus driver for Chazy Central School while also doing construction and working part-time for the United States Postal Service. In 1982 he began working full time as a Rural Postal Carrier in Chazy until his retirement in 1997.

Norman was active within his community and very loyal to his hometown of Chazy. He was a member of the Chazy Volunteer Fire Department, the VFW Post 1418 in Champlain, the American Legion in Chazy, and a member and past president of the Lions Club.

Norman was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved to play shuffleboard and also enjoyed working as a stockcar mechanic for various race teams at Airborne Raceway.

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia of Chazy; one daughter, Cindy Brown Ciaralli and her husband Pete of Oneida, N.Y.; a grandson, Peter Ciaralli of Oneida, N.Y.; one sister, Dorothy Seymour of West Chazy; a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law, Conrad and Arlene Penfield of Rouses Point; two nieces and eight nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Irvin Brown.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the R.W. Walker Funeral Home Chapel, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh. Burial will immediately follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Chazy.

Donations in his memory may be made to the FitzPatrick Cancer Center or to the Humane Society of the United States.

Arrangements are being handled by the R.W. Walker Funeral Home, 69 Court Street, Plattsburgh.
