Dale H. "Herbie" Schultz, New Effington, SD passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell, SD.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 24, 2013 at 10:30 am at Faith Lutheran Church in New Effington, SD with Rev. Harold Watrous officiating. Music will be provided by organist Debra Bredvik and vocalists Paul and Diane Bartnick.
Burial will be in the Garden of Rest Cemetery, New Effington. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends and relatives and the New Effington Fire Department. Active pallbearers will be Lynn Bredvik, Brad Eggers, Scott Bostrom, Kirk Navratil, Mike Ceroll, Willard Ward, Rory Ceroll and Dan Foltz.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm followed by a prayer service at 7:00 at the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt. Visitation will continue Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Herbie was born March 27, 1962 in Hankinson, ND to Herbert and Alyce (Smith) Schultz. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended school in New Effington, graduating in 1980. Following graduation Herbie went to work for Franklin Navratil at Navratil Implement in New Effington.
Herbie started working for Al and Margaret Eggers in 1984 at the age of 22. Herbie was a dedicated employee who took great pride in his work. He was a skilled farm equipment operator. Among his many abilities were repairman, welder and a great eye for knowing if things were level or running right. In 2001 Herbie started farming the home quarter. He continued working for Al and Margaret as well as raising his own corn and soybean crops. Herbie wasn't just an employee; he was a great family friend.
On June 7, 2008 Herbie married Dina Rada. For the past 16 months he battled cancer at various health care facilities.
Herbie was a member of the New Effington Fire Department. He enjoyed deer hunting, gardening, canning and shaking dice with his friends.
Survivors include his mother Alyce of Rosholt; sisters, Darlene (Jim) Miller of New Effington, Paulette (David) Ceroll of New Effington and Karen (Rick) Foltz of Rosholt; 8 nieces and nephews.
Herbie was preceded in death by his father Herbert and his grandparents.
