Eleanor Wood "Owo" Powell Farmer-MacDonald, 90 years of age, of Danville, Kentucky, departed this life and entered into eternal peace at her home on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Eleanor was born on July 16th, 1922, in Danville, Kentucky, daughter of the late Francis Marion and Mary Elizabeth Steele Powell. She was a 1940 graduate of Danville High School. She was a member of the WAVES (Women Accepted for Voluntary Emergency Service), United States Navy Women's Reserve, from 1944 until 1946, as a laboratory technician. She later retired from the Danville Unemployment Office where she was a supervisor. She attended the University of Kentucky.

Eleanor was a member of First Christian Church her entire life and sang in the choir for over 70 years. She was a faithful volunteer for the American Red Cross, both on the bloodmobile and donating blood many times. Eleanor was perhaps best known for the Christmas stockings she would knit for family and close friends over the years.

"Owo," as she was known to her family, spent her final years comfortably in her home. Her family would like to acknowledge her compassionate and devoted caregivers: Morgan Adams, Gayle Brown, and Dana Whitlock.

She was survived by two nephews, David Powell of Lexington, Kentucky and Mike Powell of Salvisa, Kentucky; one niece, Jill Powell Linger of Fairmont, West Virginia; her cousin, Jean Sanders Pollard of Stuttgart, Arkansas; as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Francis Marion and Mary Elizabeth Powell; her first husband, Louis Farmer; her second husband, Dan MacDonald; one brother, Benny Powell; one sister-in-law, Betty Powell; and one niece, Julie Powell Walls.

Visitations were held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7th, 2013 at the Stith Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 8th, 2013 in the Chapel of the Stith Funeral Home with Dr. Jerry Shepard officiating. A graveside service followed in the Bellevue Cemetery.

Her pallbearers were: David Powell, Mike Powell, Daniel Westerfield, Julian Mitchell, Reed Sanders, and Jay Reynolds.

THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF ELEANOR,

If you could see me now you wouldn't shed a tear, Though you may not understand why I'm no longer there. Remember my spirit, that is the real me because I'm still very much alive, I've just been set free. Oh, if you could only see!

I have held our Father's face and I've touched my Savior's hand. All of Heaven's angels rejoiced as I entered the promised land. Beyond the gates of pearl I've walked on the golden streets.

I've touched the walls of jasper and dipped my foot in the crystal sea. The beauty is beyond words and nothing could compare, I've even seen our Lords mansion and someday I'll meet you there. Let Jesus be your guide because "His Word" will show you the way. So please don't cry because we will meet again someday.
