Kathren East Leadbetter, age 83, of Hopewell, Va., died on Sunday, November 30, 2008. She was born in Altavista, Va., the daughter of the late Julian Luck and Janie Lawson East.

Mrs Leadbetter was the widow of the late Judge Paris I. Leadbetter.

She was a retired school teacher with the Hopewell School System after approximately 25 years of service. Mrs. Leadbetter was also a member of the Hopewell Historical Society and a past member of the First United Methodist Church, Hopewell.

She is survived by two sons, Peter Leadbetter and wife, Linda of Chesterfield, Va., and James Leadbetter of Richmond, Va.; a granddaughter, Megan Leadbetter of Fairfax; a grandson, Patrick Leadbetter and wife, Jill of Chesterfield; and special nieces, Barbara Taylor of Hopewell, and Linda Pomfree of Richmond.

The family will receive friends at the Hopewell chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 from 6 to 8 p. m . Graveside funeral services will follow on Wednesday, December 3, at 1 p. m . in the Wakefield Cemetery, Wakefield, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions are made to the First United Methodist Church, Hopewell.
