Angus B. Cook, 67, present commander of the Franklin County American Legion, died Thursday, June 2, 1983, at his home on the Cook Road, Hogansburg, of an apparent heart attack.

Born in Hogansburg Sept. 10, 1915, he was the son of the late Basil and Mary Cook Cook. He was married to the former Gloria Gray March 4, 1946. She survives.

In World War 2, he served in the Army with Headquarters Battery 953rd Field Artillery, Battalion and was present at the Normandy Invasion. Besides being county commander, he was a member, trustee and former commander of the Andrew W. Cook Post 1479, American Legion, in Hognsburg. He was a member of the Massena Amvets, Massena Lodge of Moose and Akwesasne Senior Citizens Club.

Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Gary of California, Raymond, Bryan and Vaughn, all of Rochester; two daughters, Mrs. Basil (Karen) Tarbell of Bombay and Mrs. Harry (Karilyn) Phillips of Rochester; two brothers, Robert and William,, both of Hogansburg; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Arquette of Bombay, Mrs. Andrew (Margaret) Narisisian of Rochester and Mrs. Marie Cook of Hogansburg; eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were Saturday at the home of his brother William on Coon Rd. and Sunday at the American Legion Home in Hogansburg.

Funeral services were Monday 11 a.m. June 6, 1983 at St. Regis Church. Honorary bearers: Alex Cook, Wm. Cook Jr., Ward Cook, Wayne Cook, Carl Cook, Warren Cook. Pall bearers were: James Cook, Thomas Cole, Richard Peters, Louie White, James Lazore, Jake Adams. Full military rites were observed at the parish cemetery with several American Legion posts from Franklin, St. Lawrence and Clinton Counties and from Montreal in attendance.

Arrangements were by the Cappiello-McKenzie Funeral Home Ft. Covington.
