Uncle Jim was always referred to as "Uncle Jim Knot" in my family. I have no idea why - perhaps he was as tough as a pine knot! I have always gotten the impression that Uncle Jim Knot had some rough and rowdy ways, but aren't the more colorful characters the most interesting?! I remember being told that his wife, "Aunt Mary," would brag about poking people with her hat pin.
