Lloyd J. Bryant

Lloyd J. Bryant, 88, of North Second Street, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at his home. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at West Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Bingham and Rev. Robert Wimberley of Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (new section). Visitation will held today between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. at West Funeral Home.

Lloyd James Bryant was born on Dec. 17, 1923, to Jim F. and Hazel I. (Bowker) Bryant in Pawnee, Oklahoma and moved to Carlsbad in 1939.
Lloyd J. and Hazel Louise Burkham Bryant married on Dec. 29, 1944, in Carlsbad, N.M. During his working years he was employed by US Potash, Duval Potash and Western Ag and before retiring in 1986. He was also a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.

Lloyd enjoyed teasing, joking, laughing and being around his friends and family. Having been an avid gardener for many years, he enjoyed sharing his harvest with everyone. However, he most enjoyed his outdoor time when he was hunting or fishing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Jess, Leslie, and Mildred Bryant and son-in-law Ray Garis.

Lloyd is survived by: wife of 67 years, Hazel Bryant; daughters: Margie Garis and Betty (Edgel) Shan of Carlsbad; brothers: J.E. (Betty) Bryant and Herman Bryant of Jennings, all of of Pawnee, Okla.; sisters: Molly Reese of Carlsbad, Rozella (James) Holley of Shawnee, Okla. , LaJuan Daws of Jennings, Okla., Onia (Don) Vaughn of Terelton OK, Ethel (Robert) Graves and Frankie Coates all of Supulpa, Okla. and Anita(Burley) Smith of Kellyville, Okla.; grandchildren: LaVern and Ameris both of Carlsbad, Cindy (Robert) Wimberley of Humble, Texas, and Kevin (Jessica)Tisdell of Lubbock, Texas, and great-grandson, Conner Wimberley of Humble, Texas, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and fishing buddies.

Pallbearers will be Kevin Tisdell, Neil Graves, Robert Graves, Kenneth Joe Bryant, Donnie Reese and Roger Taggert. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Gray, Damacio Fuentez, Glen Netherland, J.E. Bryant, Edgel Shan and Sonny Muncrief.
