Mr. Batchelor was born in Duplin County on May 25, 1927 to John and Martha Jones Batchelor. He served his country in the US Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Batchelor retired in 1993 from Merita Bakery. On Nov. 20, 1962 he married Dorothy Lynch who preceded him in death on Sept. 15, 2007. Also preceding him in death was his sister, Evelyn Gurganos.
Surviving is his daughter Cynthia Lee Fogle and husband Steve of Advance. Mr. Batchelor has two sisters; Edith Combs of Greensboro and his twin sister, Elma Dimaggio of Jacksonville, Fla. There are five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in Sechrest Funeral Chapel on E. Lexington Avenue by the Revered Jason Murray.
Interment with military honors will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m.
