Married Salome Freeman, daughter of Nelson Freeman and Mercy Whitman, on September 9, 1808. To this union seven children were born.
John and Salome first lived in Pleasant River, Queens County, then moved to Beech Hill where John developed a farm on a land grant. He also was in the tanning business, and developed a successful saw-mill.
