Line of Duty Death.
Firefighter O'Brien was killed instantly when Engine 19 was en route to a dispatched fire at Quitman and Clark Street. At the railroad crossing at Gregg Street the engine collided with a train. Firefighter Michael J. Ward was injured and lost his life at Saint Joseph Hospital the next day.
