Houston Firefighter 1928 - 1929
Line of Duty Death

Firefighter Oxford was assigned to Engine 18 on July 2nd 1929 when the crew was dispatched to 2426 Wilshire for a house fire. The Engine was struck by a railroad car at the Telephone Road Gulf Coast Line Railroad crossing. Their Captain, John Sellis Little, Sr., a 16 year veteran, was seriously injured and was taken to Memorial Baptist Hospital, where he underwent several operations and lost his final battle eleven days later. Firefighter Edgar H. Grant was killed instantly. Firefighter Oxford passed away on his 34th birthday the next day.

Son of J. O. Oxford and Mary Henderson Oxford. Brother of Miss Velma Oxford and Mrs. David Moore. Grandson of Mrs. R. L. Henderson.
