A Jamestown native, she was born Sept. 26, 1916, a daughter of the late George and Ellen Heglund Thornblad.
She graduated from Celoron High School and was a member of Kidder Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters: Susan (Geary) Frill of Jamestown, Nancy (Albert) Brazinski of Johnson City, N.Y., and Linda (Thomas) Hill of Niagara Falls, N.Y.; eight grandchildren: Michael and Linda Frill, Martin, Kevin and Steven Brazinski, and Jerome Taylor, Daniel and Thomas Simmons; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jean Hoyt of Gerry.
She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Lester Simmons, whom she married Oct. 5, 1935, and who died Jan. 28, 1988, and a son, Maj. Denis L. Simmons.
