Funeral services for Mr. Keith Edward Whatley, 82 of Oxford, formerly of Ashland, will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Ralph Martin and Rick Whatley officiating. Burial will follow in the Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Whatley passed away Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County but moved to The Golden Living Center in Oxford in the summer of 2007. He enjoyed farming for most of his life but also worked at Amerace in Lineville for several years. Mr. Whatley was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather and a member of Bellview Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Martin Whatley; one daughter, Delois Whatley Sprayberry (Ray) of Oxford; one son, Ed Whatley (Judy) of Pell City; one brother, Fred Whatley (Polly) of Lineville; three sisters: Mable Barton of Lanett, Clara Hudson of Tennessee and Bobbie Roland of California, 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Ralph Whatley and Stella Gertrude Short Whatley; two sisters: Louise Ingram and Clyde Sims; three brothers: Harold Whatley, Jack Whatley and infant Brenton Whatley.

Active pallbearers will be Galen Sprayberry, Chad Ponder. Lester Stanford, Mike Ruth, Mike Whatley and Tim Bagwell.

Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandsons: Gage Sprayberry and Addison Ponder.

The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland on Tuesday January 27, 2009 from 12:30 until service time at 2:00 P.M.
