His younger sisters were Mattie born 1875, Mary born 1877, Hattie born April 1879, Loula born November 1880, Ella born April 1885, and Ora born April 1887. He married Sarah Katie Jenkins on October 7, 1896. By 1900 they had two children, Paul L. born November 1897, and Mattie born July 1899. By 1910 they added another child, Mabell Olean born July 1901, while living at Ward 2 Edgecombe County of Rocky Mount, North Carolina. In 1917-8 Charles registered for the draft in Edgecombe County for World War I.
