From Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home:

Charlene Lori Ives Nelson entered into rest on January 16, 2013, in San Antonio. She was born on September 17, 1930, in Aransas Pass, TX.

She was preceded in death by her loving Mother (MeMe) Hazel G Cox, her father Sidney Charles Ives, Sr, her brother Sidney Charles Ives, Jr, her daughter Rose Anne Nelson and two grandchildren Amy Nelson and Florence Dawn Carter. Mother often claimed as her own, Milton Arthur Lee, a Congressional Medal of Honor Winner who spent countless nights, weekends and summers with her son, Charles.

She is survived by her sister-in-law Edith Ernestine Ives of Aransas Pass, son Charles Nelson of Austin. daughter Nita Beth Nelson Ryder and her son in law Curtis Jude Ryder. There is a nephew Mother often tried to claim, Charles Clay Ives, who spent a small part of his childhood living with us. There are 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Charlene has many great friends, too numerous to mention, but one beautiful lady, her friend of 77 years, who will be at the service is Helen Wolf Batista. They went to school together in Aransas Pass. Another friend attending the service will be her dear friend, who is 95 and visited her this past Christmas, June Oberg.

She was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Albert Sidney Johnston #2060, Order of Confederate Rose, Alamo Chapter #4 and the Confederate Cemetery Association. She took great pride in the fact that all four of her maternal great grandfathers served in the Confederacy.

Her consuming interests were researching her family history and loving and communicating with her present day family and friends. She was a member of the Women's Methodist Bible Club at Wedgwood until her accident in December 2011. She spent her last several months at Meridian Care in San Antonio, TX and I know she would like to thank "Sharon" one of her caregivers for providing excellent care and hand holding.

Charlene worked as a florist, baker and caregiver. She loved it all! One of her greatest joys was the knowledge of two family weddings which had been approaching and the birth of a twelfth great grandchild to be born in July. She enjoyed all the visits from her family and friends.
