A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Scotts Valley on Thursday for Judy Hurst who passed away at her Scotts Valley home on November 25, 2009 with her loving family at her bedside. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Judy would have celebrated her 67th birthday on December 5th. Judy has been a resident of Scotts Valley are for 21 years, and prior to that, was a long time resident of Orange County, CA. Upon moving to Scotts Valley, she and her husband became active members of San Agustin Catholic Church. Throughout her life, she was active in many organizations but took greatest pride in her Catholic lay ministries and especially prison ministry. Judy never met a stranger and never missed an opportunity to laugh. She was baptized on Christmas Day in 1942 and continued to be a gift every day of her life.

Judy is survived by her husband of 46 years, John Hurst, her sons John Hurst and Greg Hurst; and her daughters Karen O'Brien and Molly Hurst; as well as 4 sisters, 2 brothers 7 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at San Agustin Catholic Church 257 Glenwood Drive in Scotts Valley, beginning at 10:00 am. Committal Services will be private. The family asks that any remembrances will be made in Judy's name to Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
