Born 11 April 1854 at the Elijah Friend farm at Friend's Delight, Sang Run, Allegany County (now Garrett), Maryland.

Died 26 Feb 1924 when caught beneath the collapse of the roof of his coal mine at Sang Run, Garrett County, Maryland.

Married (1): Mary Frances McCabe (1856-1898) in 1888; (2) Edith Pearl Trembly (1898-1975) in 1913.
