ACCOUNT OF DELIA'S DEATH

Delia died during a visit to the home of her daughter Odessa Friend Bishoff on North Third Street in Oakland, Maryland. As told by Odessa, her mother was downstairs brushing her hair and talking with a neighbor, when, in midsentence, she keeled over and fell to the floor. She died four days later, never gaining consciousness.

Delia's viewing took place at the Oakland home of her daughter Odessa Bishoff, where a short service was conducted by Rev. C. A. Shilke, pastor of the Oakland Lutheran Church. The body was taken to the Sang Run Methodist Church where another viewing took place prior to the final service conducted by Rev. VanSickle and assisted by Rev. Hawkins. (Ronn E. Friend, grandson of Adelia – from notes in the family albums of Ralph Taft and Susan (Whorton) Friend. Ralph was the youngest of Adelia and Smith McClelland Friend's ten children.)

On March 18, 1928, Hattie Friend Casteel wrote a letter to her brother Andrew Rufus Friend in Arkansas informing him of the death of their sisters Delia and Katie. Delia passed away at 6 pm on March 10, 1928, and Katie passed away at 9:40 pm the next day, March 11. Little did Hattie know that at some time on March 11, 1928, she also lost her brother Rev. Andrew Rufus.

Katie died from "the flu that turned into pneumonia" at her home in Friendsville. She had been ill for four days. Andrew Rufus suffered a stroke on March 6 at his home near Wesson, Arkansas.
