Luigi Carraro, affectionately called Zio (Uncle) by family, was born on October 10, 1875 in Italy, and died on January 10, 1960 in Arkansas. Luigi was the son of Giovanni Battista Carraro and Angela Favaro Carraro, brother of Pietro Carraro. He and Pietro and other family members crossed the ocean, leaving Italy to arrive in the United States through Ellis Island via the S.S. Hamburg on December 23, 1907.

Luigi and Pietro settled first in the area of Caspian, Michigan. They later moved to Arkansas to purchase land for raising grapes. Their mother, Angela Favaro Carraro, is buried at Stambaugh Cemetery in Stambaugh, Michigan. She died in 1920.
