He is the 3rd son & 4th child of 6 children of Michael Linton "John" Hinton & Rachel Poffenbarger, he was born in Circleville, Pickaway Co, Ohio.(correction: although they lived in Ross County, OH, I believe thier farmland was right on the line between Pickaway & Ross ) Daniel was about 2 years old when his parents moved to Perry Twp, near Colfax, Clinton Co, Indiana. He was reared on the farm & received a limited education in the public schools. He was trained to habits of industry, laid his plans early in life, and determined to secure for himself a comfortable house & competency. In this he has succeeded, and his efforts have been conducted in that honest, upright way that has secured for him the confidence & respect of all who know him.
Our subject has been prominent in the affairs of his township, holding its minor offices, & politically is an uncompromising Democrat. He was a resident of Newcomb Twp, for over 33 years, having arrived in spring of 1851. He owned 243 acres of choice land which was wild prarie & he has cultivated with marked success and has brought improvements required by the first class agriculturist. He built a fine dwelling, a good barn & all necessary out-buildings, and in his operations as a grain & stock-raiser, ranks among the best farmers in this county.
He married his classmate, Frances McNulty "Fanny" Rowe in Clinton Co, Indiana, Oct. 22. 1851..they had 14 children all born in Newcomb Twp, Champaign Co, Illinois
He owned land Twp 21, Rg 7E, Sec 16, 160 acres, & 36 acres & Sec 15, 54 acres per 1913 Plat Map. His wife Mrs D.D. Hinton Estate was Sec 10, 40 acres of same Twp 21.
Note: Peoples Gas Co. now sits on this land, I have heard they call this Hinton Land Peoples Gas Co.
In fall of 1906, he & Fanny bought a house in Fisher, IL & retired there, in April 1907, Fanny had a heart attack & died. Daniel followed her in August of 1907. His funeral was held in the front yard of his house in Fisher under tents.
His father comes from Kentucky & is of Scotch-Irish descent & his mother comes from Pennsylvania, and a descendant of substantial German ancestry .
Source of some information is from: "Portrait & Biographical Album of Champaign County, Illinois," Chapman Brothers, Chicago, 1887, the other source is Hinton Family History, by Daisy Hinton Bonner in 1987, Daisy passed away in 2012 at age 109...
NOTE: In his house there was an upstairs door that had a special glass in it, when there was an auction one of my Hale cousins from Saybrook, IL bought that glass or door, he took the glass & made a lighted decorative piece for his home.....
