Myrtle M. Greathouse Wheeler Ford of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away May 16, 2013 at the Villages of Jackson Creek in Independence, MO, following a short illness. She was 94 years and 22 days old. Myrtle was born in Brookshire, Texas, April 24, 1919, the daughter of William Hayes Greathouse & Alice Menetta Stewart. Myrtle grew up near Collins, MO, and graduated from Weaubleau (Missouri) High School. She accepted the Lord at an early age and grew up a Baptist. She married Ray E. Wheeler of Osceola, MO, in 1940. Two children were born in this union: Mary Alice and William Ray. Myrtle lived on a farm many years in St. Clair County, MO, worked at a shoe factory, and was a secretary for a country school for several years. Myrtle helped Ray with their sawmill business. In 1957 her husband died from a car accident. She and the children remained a few years at the farm. Later she married Robert Ford of Blue Springs, MO. The family moved to the Blue Springs area in 1961. Myrtle and Robert were employed at Lake City Arsenal, where she later retired. She and Robert were happily married for 23 years when he died in 1982. Myrtle has lived on her own with assistance from her son, until her recent illness. She has experienced remarkable health through the years and enjoyed her family close by. Myrtle enjoyed: gardening, making quilts, sewing, cooking, canning, oil painting, drawing, reading, animals, travel and feeding her pet squirrels. She loved the state of Washington. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Harold Greathouse, sister-in-law Ozelma Greathouse, son-in-law Bobbie L. Pearson, grandson Bart Allen Pearson and niece Phillys Hensley. She is survived by daughter, Mary A. Pearson Miller (Gene) of Oak Grove, MO; son, William Ray Wheeler (Wanda) of Grain Valley, MO; six grandchildren: John Matthew Pearson (Colleen) of Dublin, CA; Mary Melissa Shinoski (William) of Grain Valley, MO; Jennifer Marie Prather (Reese) of Savannah, MO; Ray Eric Wheeler (Chris) of Savannah, MO; James William Wheeler (Melinda) of Kansas City, MO; and Julie Beth Wheeler of Montgomery City, MO; six great-grandchildren: Brandon, Addison, Carston, Kerrigan, Lauren Kate, and Heidi Elizabeth. She is survived by one niece, Iris De Shazo (Don) of Collins, MO. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Meyers Funeral Chapel Blue Springs. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial at Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice.
