Henry Amos Davis was born July 24, 1854 in Alabama, son of Benjamin Davis (1825- ) and Sarah Roebuck (1830- ). Henry's father, Benjamin, was killed in the Civil War.

In 1877 Henry married Mariah Frances Tarney, who was born March 29, 1852 in Winston County, Mississippi, daughter of James Tarney (1814-1880) and Elizabeth Turner (1826-1880).

Henry and Mariah had seven children, three boys and four girls. The boys left Mississippi and moved to Bryan County, Oklahoma first, and then the girls all came later in 1903 and lived at Twelve Mile Prairie.

The children of Henry and Mariah were: George Davis (1878-1969); Sarah Elizabeth Davis Gladney (1883- ); Wilburt Davis (1880-1917); Katherine Davis Harmon (1889-1974); Bernard Davis (1885-1947); Clara Belle Davis (1891-1981); Bessie Davis Jo Hansen (1893- ). All of the children were born in Winston County, Mississippi.

The 1900 Federal Census for Beat 5, Mississippi (Winston County) shows Henry A. Davis, a farmer, age 47, born May 1853 in Mississippi; and his wife, Mariah Frances, age 47, born April 1853 in Mississippi. Living with them were six children: Wilburt E. Davis, a farm laborer, age 20, born April 1880; Sarah E. Davis, age 16, born July 1883; Bernard Davis, a farm laborer, age 14, born July 1885; Kitty Davis, age 9, born December 1890; Clara B. Davis, age 7, November 1892; and Bessie Davis, age 5, born May 1894; all born in Mississippi.

The 1910 Federal Census for Township 2, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Henry Davis, a farmer, age 53, born in Mississippi; and his wife, Mariah, a farm laborer, age 57, born April 1853 in Mississippi. Living with them was one daughter, Bessie Davis, a farm laborer, age 15, born in Mississippi.

Henry died February 18, 1912 in Bryan County, Oklahoma and was buried in Durant in the Highland Cemetery. Mariah died December 23, 1935 in Bryan County, Oklahoma and was buried in Durant in the Highland Cemetery beside her husband.
