Merged General Note: Carl was 15 years old, with his family left Lutjenburg, Germany, near the North Sea, and walked to Hamburg, Germany in the winter of 1892. They took a ship Rhaetia to America and landed in New York at Ellis Island near the Statue of Liberty 11 April 1892. They took a train to Marne, Iowa and lived on Remien Farm three miles west and one-half mile south of Marne. He helped farm Remien and Fullendorf farms. Carl went to Atlantic, Iowa. He worked in a restaurant there. He taught himself to read and write the English Language. He received his citizenship papers at the Atlantic Court House.
He was a rural mail carrier 1906 through 1908 at Walnut, Iowa, carried mail on the North route. He married 10-Mar-1908 to Elizabeth Armstrong and moved to a farm South of Minden, Iowa. They had four girls and two boys. They moved by train to a farm near Lewis, Iowa around 1911 through 1916. Then moved to brother August's farm 2 miles south and 2 miles east of Walnut. They lived there until 1934. From there moved to the Hector farm one mile west of Marne. In 1942 they moved to Atlantic, Iowa. They lived there until they passed away.


Carl L. Voss, 92, retired farmer, died at 11:10 Tuesday morning at the Cass County Memorial Hospital, to which he was admitted Monday. He had resided at the Atlantic Nursing Home since the death of his wife in 1966.
Mr. Voss was born in Germany Jan. 28, 1877, the son of Henry and Elise Goos Voss and came to the United States in 1892. He was married to Lizzie Armstrong in Hancock March 10, 1908 and was a rural mail carrier at Walnut for several years following their marriage. They farmed in the Minden, Lewis and Walnut vicinities many years, retiring and moving to Atlantic about 1942. Mrs. Voss march 30, 1966. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Church shortly before coming to the United States.
Surviving are two sons, Roy C. Voss of Omaha and Lloyd E. Voss of Council Bluffs; three daughters, Mrs. Pearl E. Dillehay of Council Bluffs, Ethel I. Voss of Omaha and Mrs. Lorene M. Cozad of Elkhorn, Nebr.; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and a daughter, Mrs. Hazel L. Rudy, Dec. 16-1968.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Roland Funeral Home, the Rev. Harold A. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
