Navy Hospitalman Joshua McIntosh of Kingman, Arizona enlisted in 2001, serving in Iraq as a Navy hospitalman in charge of aiding injured and sick Marines. He was from a special part of the Navy that the Marines call their own. Officially he was a Navy Hospitalman. But to the Marines of the Third Battalion, Seventh Marine Regiment, he was simply "Doc," an affectionate term used for the navy men who cared for sick and wounded Marines. Navy corpsmen are loved because they live, eat, fight and, sometimes, die with the Marine units they are assigned. War might seem far away to youngsters growing up in Kingman, Ariz. Not to those who knew Joshua. As Kingman High School students gather on Veterans Day to remember those who served their country, they are reminded of Joshua and that of another graduate killed on active duty. He died in Karbala, Iraq, from a non-hostile gunshot wound at age 22.
