His mother died in England before his father and he immigrated to the United States in 1882.
He was a striking young man who was tall, of medium build with dashing blue eyes and locks of red hair. By trade, Robert was a mechanic, employed at Bryson City Motor Car.
He lived with his father until such time as his marriage, at which time his father moved in with him and his young bride, Mattie.
Robert married the lovely Mattie Seay on 02 Jun 1901 in Swain County, NC. Performed by: T.F. Deitz, Baptist Minister at the home of Eliza Seay (mother of the bride) in Charleston Township. A.B. Allison, Charley Hill and Lewis Brayless, witnesses.
Five children would be born to this union: Reginald, Joseph, Ruby, Iris and Robert.
Robert died as the result of complications from a tonsillectomy, aggravated by high blood pressure.
