He commanded a company during King Philip's War.

His first wife was named Sarah, maiden name not known. Some sources say she was Sarah Strong, though proof is lacking. She died Sept 6,1675 at Northampton.

His second wife was Sarah Slye Cooper Clark, widow of Thomas Cooper, and daughter of George Slye. They were married Nov 15,1676 at Springfield,MA. There is evidence she was a sister of Capt. Robert Slye of Hartford,CT, later of Maryland.

William Clarke's origins are unknown at this time. His name is variously spelled Clark and Clarke in records.

Children(by first marriage): Sarah Clark, Jonathan Clark, Nathaniel Clark, Experience Clark, Increase Clark, Rebecca Clark Rust, John Clark, Samuel Clark, William Clark Jr, and Sarah Clark Parsons.
