Obituary:
J P WORTHEN CALLED HOME - One of the Older Residents Dies of Neuralgia of the Heart - J P Worthen died rather unexpectedly at his home on east Water street at 5 o'clock Saturday morning at the age of 84, and one of the oldest and best esteemed citizens is called home. Mr Worthen had been failing for several months and for a few days before his death he was complaining of neuralgia of the stomach, but he was believed to be better Friday evening. It seems that his death was due to neuralgia of the heart which came suddenly. Perry Worthen had been a resident of this city for sixty years, but he was a native of Maryland, having been born in Fredericksburg, Perry county, that state. He was married in this city November 2, 1848, and his aged wife survives him. He was the father of nine children of whom five are living - Mrs Mary E White, John, William and Marvel Worthen and Mrs Emma Reed. The children all live in this city with the exception of Marvel, whose home is in Chicago. Mr Worthen was a sincere and earnest church worker and a kindly man who had no enemies and counted as friends all his acquaintances. For [two lines obscured by a crease]knew him so well, but the older residents will feel a pang of sorrow when they learn he has passed away. Mr Worthen will be buried from his house Monday afternoon. Interment taking place in the Oddfellows cemetery.
